Staff Council President’s October Letter to Staff

Hello from Staff Council!

I would like to thank those individuals that attended the annual President’s Report to the Community.  This motivational speech shed light on the direction UHD is traveling and made us aware of some exciting things to come.

Merit Increases

The president promised faculty and staff merit increases. The Staff Council will be in direct contact with ESO to inquire about the process and when these raises will be issued.  During our monthly meetings, we will continue to discuss and adequately address the pressing issue of merit increases.

EDGE Grant

I would like to congratulate Andrea Guillory and Laura Waits, the September and October EDGE grant recipients. Each will receive $200 to use for their professional development.  Each month, the Staff Council awards a grant to a UHD staff member that submits an application and plans to attend a professional development, continuing education conference or training.  To learn more and/or to apply for an EDGE grant, visit EDGE Grant.

Fitness Release Time

This valuable benefit is available to full-time, benefits-eligible staff members at UHD.  Those that qualify are eligible for up to three (3), 30-minute sessions of exercise time during the normal workweek. This time is counted as hours worked.  Details about this valuable program and newly approved fitness options such as walking and climbing stairs can be found here.

Homecoming

I would like to personally invite you to be a part of UHD Homecoming activities scheduled for October 14–19 and culminating to the traditional Tailgatoring activities on October 19 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. in the meter lot behind the Student Life Center.  Staff Council will have a cake walk and bake sale during Tailgatoring to raise funds for the EDGE Grants.  Details of this week of events will be posted soon.

UHD Military Veterans

All staff and faculty military veterans are encouraged to share a few details about their military service for our country so we can honor them during Veteran’s Day on November 11. The Staff Council is collecting photos of military personnel the entire month of October to create a UHD Perpetual Veteran Slideshow highlighting individuals who are now serving UHD.  Details of this program can be found at UHD Perpetual Veteran Slideshow.
