Are you in good shape for your retirement? Many people aren’t.
A Bankrate survey of 2,226 people found that more than half—52%—of Americans are behind on their retirement savings, and 16% aren’t sure they’re keeping up. Twenty-one percent say they’re on track, and 11% are actually ahead of their goals.
Fifty-one percent have taken early withdrawals from their 401(k) plans or IRAs, and 20% say they’ve done so since the start of the pandemic to make ends meet. The reasons include:
- Loss of income 49%
- Extra expenses 32%
- More debt 21%
- Wanting more cash on hand 19%
- Helping adult family members 14%
