Celebrating Black History Month

February is dedicated as Black History Month, honoring the triumphs and struggles of African Americans throughout U.S. history, including the civil rights movement and their artistic, cultural and political achievements.

President Gerald Ford officially recognized Black History Month in 1976, calling upon the public to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.”

The University of Houston-Downtown appreciates the cultural, political, and social impact of our diverse campus community.

We invite you to participate in activities as UHD celebrates Black History Month.
