all employees

Employee Appreciation Day is this Friday, March 1

Employee Appreciation Day is this Friday, March 1, and the Office of Human Resources, Staff Council, and Faculty Senate would like to express our sincerest gratitude for all of UHD’s employees. Whether you are faculty, staff, a student employee, or working with UHD on a temporary basis, you are an important member of our team and your contributions to student success and the Gator community cannot be overstated. Thank you!

As a way to express some additional appreciation for UHD’s exceptional employees, the Office of Human Resources, Staff Council, and Faculty Senate would like to invite you to enjoy donuts, coffee, and drinks with us from 8:30-10:30a.m. this Friday, March 1, in the mural area near A300. We hope to see you there!

We’ve also included some background about Employee Appreciation Day and some free and low-cost employee appreciation ideas in this post if you’d like to plan any additional celebrations for yourself, your colleagues across campus, or your team.

Once again, thank you for your contributions to the Gator community, and thank you to both UHD’s Staff Council and Faculty Senate for their collaboration in bringing this Employee Appreciation Day event to life.

The UHD Office of Human Resources Team

Employee Appreciation Day is a relatively recent celebration, dating back to 1995. It’s designated as the first Friday in March, and it’s meant to celebrate all employees and to acknowledge and recognize the impact they have on their organizations and communities. Though the suggestions we have collected in this post are great ideas for Employee Appreciation Day celebrations, they can also be used to show appreciation for one another throughout the year.

  • Find some thoughtful decorations (or repurpose some you may already have!) and spruce up the office.
  • Spend some time expressing gratitude for one another via Teams chat, Zoom chat, or an email thread.
  • Make time to thank a colleague for something they have contributed to your team. Let them know that what they do adds value to you and your colleagues.
  • Organize a lunch together, even if you’re just bringing your own. If scheduling is difficult, find another day to have lunch; it doesn’t have to be on Employee Appreciation Day!
  • Devote some time to showing appreciation for one another during your next staff, project, or team meeting.

Do you have a suggestion for another celebration we could include here? If so, please contact us at hr@uhd.edu. We’d love to feature your suggestion in this post!

Happy celebrating, Gators!
