Benefits Spotlight: Medical Virtual Visits

HealthSelect of Texas participants and eligible dependents can get care for some urgent conditions without leaving home or work.

Virtual Visits offer convenient, high-quality care when your primary care physician isn’t available, when you become ill or as an alternative to the emergency room or urgent care clinic for non-emergency health problems.

You can consult with a licensed physician from a computer, tablet, or smart phone using secure online audio and video technology. Virtual Visit providers diagnose and treat a wide range of non-emergency medical conditions, such as sinus problems, sore throat, pink eye and bronchitis.

Virtual Visits are not recommended for conditions that need a test, complex or chronic conditions, or sprains, broken bones and other injuries that need bandaging.

How it works

  • You have access to a licensed board-certified doctor 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays.
  • You have no cost if you are enrolled in HealthSelect of Texas®, HealthSelectSM Out-of-State or HealthSelectSM Secondary - that means you will have 100% coverage for medical virtual visits under your plan for medical services (excluding mental health care).
  • Consumer Directed HealthSelect participants will be required to meet their annual deductible before virtual visits are covered, subject to the coinsurance for those plans after deductible is met.
  • You can choose between Doctor On Demand and MDLIVE *.

A doctor is generally available within 30 minutes from the time you login, or you can schedule an appointment. During the visit, you talk to a doctor about specific health concerns, symptoms and treatment options. If you need a prescription, the doctor can write an electronic prescription for pick-up at your local pharmacy.
